These terms govern your use of TokenBrake (the "Service"), software published by Northjule ("we", "us"). By downloading, installing, purchasing, or using TokenBrake, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
TokenBrake is a self-hosted tool that meters and can limit spending on third-party AI APIs (such as OpenAI and Anthropic) by acting as a proxy that you run on your own infrastructure. It reports usage and, when configured, can stop requests once a budget is reached.
TokenBrake reduces the risk of unexpected AI bills. It does not guarantee that a bill will never exceed a budget. By design, if TokenBrake cannot accurately price a request, encounters an internal error, or is bypassed, it may allow requests to proceed ("fail open") so that it never silently breaks your systems. Pricing is estimated from provider-published rates and may lag or differ from your actual invoice.
You remain solely responsible for your API usage, your provider accounts, your spending, and any charges you incur. You should continue to set limits and monitor spending directly with your AI providers.
TokenBrake is source-available, not open source. It is released under the PolyForm Small Business 1.0.0 licence, which permits free use — including at work — by individuals and by any company with fewer than 100 people and under $1,000,000 in revenue. Companies above that threshold need a commercial licence.
The commercial licence is $249, paid once. It covers one company, with no limit on machines, agents or people. It does not expire, does not renew, and is not a subscription — there is nothing to cancel.
Payment is processed by Gumroad, who act as merchant of record and handle sales tax and VAT. Refunds are handled under Gumroad's refund policy; if something is wrong with the product, email us first and we will sort it out.
Your licence key is derived from your purchase, so re-entering your Gumroad key at tokenbrake.com/get always returns the same TokenBrake key. A lost key is not a support ticket.
You agree not to use TokenBrake to break the law, to violate the terms of any AI provider you connect it to, to resell or redistribute the Service as your own, or to attempt to forge, tamper with, or circumvent license verification. You are responsible for keeping your own API keys and license key secure.
TokenBrake runs on your infrastructure. It is built so that your API keys and prompt content pass through to your provider and are not stored by us. Usage figures live on your server. See our Privacy Policy for what limited information the purchase process handles.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of cost estimates, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will prevent any particular charge.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Northjule be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any AI-provider charges, lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service — even if advised of the possibility. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the total amount you have paid us for the Service.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Northjule from claims arising out of your use of the Service, your API usage, or your violation of these terms or of any third-party provider's terms.
We may update these terms as the Service evolves. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above.
